35mm Film: Heart, Body and Soul

35mm Film: Heart, Soul and Story is my way to find meaning in 35mm film work, and this project of capturing 365 photographs has gained a life of its own, and I must confess, the joy it brings is immense. Today feels like an opportunity to pause, refocus and find a way to reengage with my vision. however feels like a chance to catch up, to wrangle the project back into focus.

As I revisit my work, I'm deeply moved by the unique magic held within each 'Keeper' frame. It's important to note that the designation 'Keeper' signifies something special, and running film often comes at a cost. I apologise for the technicalities—this isn’t just a mechanical exercise; it's an emotional journey.

Each image captured on that strip of celluloid possesses its own unique personality, a truth I was reminded of just yesterday. Each roll of film seems to tell its own story, and today reaffirms that notion. I sense there is so much more I can explore—perhaps I’m setting myself up for a challenge, but wasn’t that the original intention behind the 35mm Film Project? To push my boundaries?

While my heart is drawn to the allure of film, my mind reminds me of the practicalities, which often don’t add up. Yet, there is an almost sacred quality to the past when I look at a film scan or print. My dream is to return to alternative photographic processes and work directly on paper again.

There’s a bittersweetness to film, reflecting the journey it represents. I prefer not to linger in nostalgia for too long; the past is where it belongs—behind us.

Today, I allow myself to be vulnerable and its not easy to embrace the challenge of seeing beyond mere aesthetics. My goal is to not only present the visual but to convey the emotional resonance behind each image.

In essence, my journey with 35mm Film: Heart, Soul and Story is just beginning to unfurl.
