‘Second Steps’

The "Second Steps" project is a year-long creative journey dedicated to exploring the transformative power of vulnerability as a means to release outdated mindsets and limiting beliefs. Throughout this endeavour, I will be working with two vintage cameras, emphasising spontaneity and embracing experimentation. Ultimately, this project aims to be a pathway for learning and growth, filled with joyful memories along the way.

To set the scene, the first half of 2025 was particularly challenging, marked by a visit to Charing Cross Hospital in mid-February. By Good Friday, my life felt completely shattered, and on Easter Sunday, I found myself with only a single bag and my faith. My recovery was guided by my GP and Janie, who took me on a healing journey through Reiki. I am deeply grateful to them and the two incredible individuals who comforted me during my time at Charing Cross Hospital.

Vulnerability transforms friendships, infusing them with deeper meaning. A simple text or call signifies that someone is thinking of you. I have little patience for drama; I believe in the power of forgiveness and love. I will welcome back those who struggled. This time, however I choose me.

This 12-month photographic journey marks the beginning of a new chapter in my life. With each month, I will capture new experiences through photographs that symbolize my new beginnings. My aim is to celebrate friendships, love, and the moments that test my spirit.

As the months unfold, I will connect with those who have influenced my life—friends and mentors alike—creating snapshots of joy, vulnerability, and growth. I envision capturing quiet mornings in cafés, profound conversations beneath the stars, and spontaneous adventures that highlight the beauty of life.

I recognise that challenges will inevitably arise, testing my resolve. Yet, with every click of the shutter, I will confront these obstacles and embrace the opportunity for growth. These photographs will serve as reminders of our shared experiences, illustrating that we navigate life together.

As this year progresses, I look forward to marvelling at this journey—not just my own, but also the intertwined stories of those I hold dear. This is a celebration of community and human connection, a reminder that even in starting anew, we are never truly alone.
