Self Portrait Mixed Media

Self Portrait Mixed Media: Works on Paper

This experimental series features two searching self-portraits that touch upon the intricate layers of identity through a rich blend of materials and techniques. Each piece serves as a reflection of my inner world, employing a combination of mixed media and photography to create a multifaceted narrative.

The concept behind these two portraits is to inspire meaningful conversations around authenticity, vulnerability, and the fluid nature of identity, highlighting the diverse personas we adopt in response to our environments. I am experimenting with colour in an a way I'm not familiar with, challenging my natural instincts in order to express a vibrant spectrum of emotions and experiences.

Working mixed media is both playful and also a celebration of the artistic process, it also lends itself to the multifaceted essence of self-representation. I've never worked self portraiture this way before and am challenging authenticity and the pursuit of realistic likeness. Instead, these two works embrace abstraction and symbolism, allowing for a richer interpretation of what it means to depict oneself.

Phew, hope that makes sense. I did really enjoy making the work and I'm sure there will be more and it will evolve.
